Sojourner Truth Basketball Court

Modern Day Me proudly partnered with NRG Experiential Marketing, 2K Foundations, and Timberwolves NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns to reimagine and renovate the basketball court gymnasium for the Sojourner Truth Academy in North Minneapolis.

2K Foundations supports underserved communities across the nation by renovating basketball courts in neighborhoods that need them the most. For this project they enlisted Karl-Anthony Towns in a program they call Tune-up to Play, where they connect sports figures in communities with organizations to do something good in the community.

NRG approached Modern Day Me to facilitate the creation and implementation of artwork onto the gymnasium floor. To this end, we commissioned Twin Cities artist Tom Janson to install the artwork created by Josh Woods.

"Truth is powerful and it prevails"

- Sojourner Truth

This renovation demonstrates the hard work, passion, and creativity our team pours into each project. In addition, our team went the extra mile and contributed the Minneapolis skyline seen on the walls.

Our teams worked hard to complete this project over the holiday break, and finally, it was time to celebrate and showcase the new basketball court to the community.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Karl-Anthony Towns remarked, "I'm glad to be able to participate in providing a new basketball haven for the Sojourner Truth Academy students and members of the local community. 2K Foundations and The Tune Up program is an amazing opportunity to provide resources and experiences for local communities, and it's great to see this project come to life firsthand."
