IDS CENTER 50TH ANNIVERSARY

On Thursday, September 22, 2022, the IDS Center celebrated its 50th Anniversary.

As part of the celebration, Accesso Services commissioned Modern Day Me artist, Alex Smith, to produce a custom mural to showcase the IDS Center as the pinnacle of Downtown Minneapolis over its 50-year existence.

The piece highlights the evolution of the property’s impact on culture & architecture, while also capturing the dynamic functionality that defines the structure from the inside out.

The original piece was assembled out of 26 separate canvases of varying sizes, which enabled the artwork to be divided into three sections that can be found in various locations throughout the building.

Many friends and family came out on September 22 to join Modern Day Me in celebration, including Jared's mother, pictured alongside him.

Twin Cities luminaries such as Mayor Frey and Council Member Lisa Goodman delivered remarks on the building’s significance and the important role it plays in the Minneapolis community and defining the city’s skyline.

The celebration was also graced by an appearance of one of the original builders of the IDS Center, Doug Oster, who can be seen above pointing at a 1970 photograph of himself overseeing the construction of the curtain wall.
