The Lift Garage

In June of 2021, MDM teamed up with The Lift Garage, a non-profit vehicle repair shop in the Hi-Lake neighborhood of Minneapolis. The Lift team envisioned a public art piece that represented the ideals and values of their mission, their community, and their vision for a better future.

The MDM team worked with the Lift to develop an engagement strategy that included questions, specifically designed to curate responses from their community to inform the overall design and direction of the public art. A few example prompts included: “Name one hero, and why?”, “Where do you see beauty in your everyday life?”, “If you could create the solution for anything, what would it be?”

Common themes that came forth from the engagement included: Nature, Water, Strength of Women, Children, and Social Justice.
